According to Vu Trong Binh, head of the Employment Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, there is no plan to rearrange holidays to allow a nine-day consecutive break for the 30/4–1/5 period. The information was provided by the head of the Department of Employment at a briefing to reporters on occupational safety and health for 2025 and the launch of the Safety and Hygiene Month and the Workers' Month in 2026. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has released the holidays for 2026. These holidays have been approved by the Government and the Ministry announced them in October 2025. The annual holiday schedule is determined under the Labour Code and has been consulted with labor unions at all levels and central agencies. 'There is no new policy from the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the Government,' he said. Under the 2019 Labour Code, employees are entitled to paid leave on annual public holidays; Hung Kings' Day (1 day, 10th day of the lunar year), Reunification Day 30/4 (1 day), International Labour Day 1/5 (1 day). The Ministry's prior notice noted that Hung Kings' Day falls on Sunday this year (April 26 in the Gregorian calendar). However, since it coincides with the weekend, civil servants and workers will take a compensatory day off on Monday (April 27). Thus, counting weekends as well, the Hung Kings holiday extends to 3 days, from Saturday (April 25) to Monday (April 27). Immediately after is the 30/4–1/5 holiday that falls on Thursday and Friday. If workers do not work on Saturday, the holiday period will extend to four consecutive days, from April 30 to May 3. A notable point is that the two holiday blocks are very close to each other (only two days apart). The Labour Code states that the annual leave schedule is decided by employers after consulting employees and must be announced in advance. Employees may also agree to split leave into multiple periods or to consolidate leave for up to three years at a time. If there are remaining annual leave days or if the employer advances leave, employees can request additional leave before the 30/4–1/5 period to extend the break while still receiving full pay.
