On April 22, 2026, Vietnam Airlines said it would increase the Hanoi-Moscow flight frequency from July 1 to meet rising travel demand. The addition of flights will be implemented flexibly in line with market developments. The Hanoi-Moscow flights are operated by wide-body Boeing 787 aircraft. The flights will be increased from three to four weekly services. In addition to the existing flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the airline will add a Sunday flight. These flights will be operated by Boeing 787 aircraft. This increase is being implemented in the context of a clear recovery in the Vietnam-Russia market. In 2025, the number of Russian visitors to Vietnam reached about 690,000, nearly three times the previous year. In the first two months of 2026, visitors reached about 246,000, threefold the level of the same period. The total air traffic between the two countries also rose significantly, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Nguyen Quang Trung, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines, said: "The airline will continue to monitor market developments closely to adjust the exploitation plan appropriately at each stage, while strictly ensuring safety standards. The flexibility to adjust and increase frequency on international routes not only helps maintain operational efficiency but also ensures smooth operations on key routes, especially in Europe, thereby strengthening Vietnam's connectivity with the region and the world." Currently, Vietnam Airlines maintains Vietnam-Europe connectivity on 11 direct routes using wide-body aircraft including Airbus A350 and Boeing 787. From June 16, 2026, the airline plans to inaugurate a direct Hanoi-Amsterdam route to boost operations to the Western Europe market. Recently, leaders of Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction and the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Transport have met to push negotiations, finalize and sign a new Air Agreement to create a more favorable legal framework for airline operations. Vietnam expects Russia to facilitate Vietnamese carriers’ operations and transit rights in the Russian market, helping improve efficiency and strengthen air connectivity between the two countries, promoting substantive, effective, and sustainable Vietnam-Russia aviation cooperation in the time ahead… In 2025, Vietnamese and Russian carriers operated more than 3,100 flights, carrying over 800 thousand passengers and more than 3 thousand tons of cargo, showing the potential and room for growth.
