Vietnam–United States Forum on Innovation for Advanced Energy Development By Minh Ngoc — Sunday, May 10, 2026, 07:46 On May 8, the National Innovation Center (NIC), the Ministry of Finance in coordination with EXCEL Services Corporation (USA) organized the Vietnam–United States Forum on Innovation with the topic of developing advanced energy to serve strategic technology sectors at NIC Hoa Lac. This forum continues the collaboration activities established between NIC and EXCEL Services Corporation within the GBIC program in the United States in March 2026. It also creates a dialogue space among policymakers, businesses, experts and investors to discuss development directions, share international experience, and promote the ability to implement advanced energy projects in Vietnam. The event saw participation from representatives of ministries, sectors, technology and energy corporations, research institutions, universities and domestic and foreign investment organizations. In his remarks at the forum, Vo Xuan Hoai, Deputy Director of NIC, said the forum is an opportunity to strengthen connections among ecosystem players, from management agencies to enterprises and international partners, thereby promoting collaboration in research, technology transfer, and human resource development, paving the way for a suitable energy platform for the development of strategic technology sectors in Vietnam. From a business perspective, James Voss, Vice President of EXCEL Services Corporation, said the company is researching and developing next-generation energy solutions with high reliability, including modular small reactor models and integrated energy systems, to meet continuous operation demands of high-tech sectors. He also emphasized the potential for cooperation with Vietnam in deploying solutions aligned with practical conditions, while gradually transferring technology and operating experience. From policy and international cooperation perspectives, Pham Quang Vinh, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, former Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States, stated that advanced energy is becoming one of the important cooperation areas in Vietnam–United States relations, especially in the context of both countries promoting priorities on high technology, innovation and sustainable development. According to Nguyen Quang Vinh, expanding cooperation in this field not only helps meet domestic development needs but also creates conditions for Vietnam to participate more deeply in global value chains and technology networks. Representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that refining the legal framework, planning and policy mechanisms for developing new types of energy, including nuclear power, is being implemented to ensure safety, comply with international standards, and fit Vietnam's practical conditions. Within the Forum, parties also discussed the possibility of forming cooperative programs in training and developing human resources, especially in energy and related engineering fields, aiming to build a cadre of experts capable of participating in large-scale technology projects in the future. The approach to state–business–academic collaboration remains a key factor to promote innovation and enhance domestic capability. The Vietnam–United States Forum on Innovation for Advanced Energy Development concretizes Vietnam's major policy orientations, while opening opportunities to intensify international cooperation, attract high-quality resources, and promote the formation of an energy platform suitable for the development of strategic technology sectors in the next period./.
