According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, in 2025 the total cost of workplace accidents and related property losses—while some statistics remain incomplete—stood at over 14.068 trillion VND. Beyond direct economic losses, workplace accidents also significantly affect production and business operations of enterprises and the livelihoods of workers.
On 3 April, the Ministry of Home Affairs released a report on workplace accidents in 2025, showing a sharp decline in the number of accidents and injuries nationwide, particularly in sectors with labor relations.
In 2025, nationwide there were 7,004 workplace accidents, down 1,282 cases (15.47%) compared with 2024. The number of injured people was 7,156, down 1,316 (15.53%) versus 2024.
Fatal workplace accidents totaled 621 cases, down 63 (9.33%) compared with 2024. In the labor relations sector, fatal workplace accidents were 475 cases, down 60 (11.21%) versus 2024. The number of deaths due to workplace accidents was 658, down 69 compared with 2024 (9.49%).
During 2025, around 3 million workers underwent periodic health examinations, up 70% year-on-year.
Last year, insurance settled new claims for 7,118 cases of workers with workplace accidents, occupational diseases, and traffic accident injuries who received accident benefits (2024: 7,391 cases). Of these, 2,099 cases were monthly and 5,019 were one-time. In total, 6,655 cases received accident benefits and 463 cases involved occupational diseases.
Total cost of workplace accidents and incomplete property losses in 2025 was over 14.068 trillion VND, down sharply from over 42.565 trillion in 2024. In addition, property losses from workplace accidents are estimated at over 25 billion VND.
Total days of leave due to workplace accidents in 2025 exceeded 126,220 days, interrupting production, reducing labor productivity, and generating additional indirect costs for enterprises and society.
Despite the overall decline, the Ministry of Home Affairs said occupational safety and hygiene work faces greater challenges ahead. It noted that the number of workplace accidents, occupational diseases, and serious incidents remains high with no sustainable decrease.
Accidents among workers in non-contract employment rose: in 2025 there were 146 fatal accidents, up 4.29% from 2024, causing 150 deaths.
Statistics from the health system show 17,202 people sought initial and emergency treatment at hospitals for workplace accidents.
Industries with the highest numbers of fatal workplace accidents include construction, textiles, footwear, electricity, and mining.
Localities with many workplace accidents include Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, and Lao Cai.
Regarding detection of occupational diseases, the total number of workers exposed to harmful factors who underwent screening for occupational diseases was 865,143 visits, up about 51% versus 2024. Among these, 51 new cases were diagnosed.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said the high number of workplace accidents is linked to a lack of serious compliance with safety and hygiene regulations, failure to improve working conditions, lax and formal management in safety and hygiene, insufficient training, and limited safety culture. It said local authorities must devote more resources to occupational safety and hygiene.
To address these challenges, the Ministry plans to propose mechanisms to promote prevention of workplace accidents and occupational diseases, streamline and simplify administrative procedures in the safety and hygiene field, and strengthen supervision of safety and hygiene at workplaces and in supply chains. Employers are urged to improve working conditions and control risks and hazards at the workplace.
The Ministry also asked provincial Departments of Home Affairs to promptly form provincial-level investigations into workplace accidents.
