On Nui Cam in Tam Kỳ city, the monumental project worth 411 billion dong has drawn attention not only for its scale but also for the sacred stories it carries. The Heroic Vietnamese Mothers Statue rises to a height of 18.5 meters and curves more than 100 meters across, becoming Southeast Asia's largest statue dedicated to the Heroic Mothers. The project began in 2007 and was officially inaugurated in 2015 after nearly a decade of work by hundreds of artisans, engineers and workers. Painter Đinh Gia Thắng, who drafted the statue, endured a challenging journey; his clay model nearly collapsed during the process, nearly costing him his life. To complete the monument, he spent six years constructing and six more years shaping ideas and fundraising. The granite blocks were sourced from Bình Định with each block weighing 60 to 110 tons. In total, about 20,000 tons were transported to Quảng Nam for construction. From Tam Kỳ city center, visitors can reach the statue in about 10 to 15 minutes by motorbike or car. The road up to Nui Cam is easy, with expansive scenery on both sides, suitable for day trips. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon when the sun is gentler and the space is quieter, ideal for fully appreciating the monument's beauty. The monument is modeled after the Mother of Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, a mother from Điện Bàn who sent many children to the battlefield. The sandstone statue stands 18.5 meters tall, stretches along a curved path of more than 100 meters, creating a form that is grand yet graceful. From the front plaza, visitors can sense the monument's magnitude and capture panoramic photos with ease. Inside, the display space unfolds with thousands of documents, photographs, and artifacts about heroic Vietnamese mothers from across the country. This is not only a tourist site but also a place to deepen understanding of history and the stories behind each name recorded. One of the most memorable experiences is standing atop Nui Cam at sunset, when the monument is bathed in a warm, amber light and the distant city of Tam Kỳ appears tranquil. The journey to the monument can be combined with other notable Quảng Nam destinations. From Tam Kỳ, visitors can travel to Hội An ancient town to stroll among moss-covered streets and lantern-lit evenings, or go further to Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary, the ancient Cham towers, or to Cù Lao Chàm with its clear waters and diverse marine ecosystem. In 2025, Quảng Nam recorded a remarkable tourism rebound, welcoming about 8.9 million visitors and generating revenue of over 11.3 trillion dong. Behind these growth figures are not only the appeal of familiar destinations but also cultural and historical works that carry deep spiritual value.
Premium gym chains are entering a “golden era” that is ending or already in decline, as rising operating costs collide with shifting consumer preferences toward more flexible, community-based ways to exercise.
