Da Nang has officially become the largest city in Vietnam by area after the merger of the entire territory of Quang Nam province on July 1, 2025, increasing the city’s natural land area to 11,860 square kilometers. This expansion places Da Nang above other large urban areas in the country.
The city’s rapid tourism growth is also pushing demand for expanded air capacity. Official statistics show Da Nang hosted more than 17.3 million visitors in 2025, including 7.6 million international arrivals. For 2026, the city aims to serve 19.1 million visitors, with up to 8.7 million international travelers expected.
In addition to Da Nang International Airport, Chu Lai is being developed to serve as the region’s international airport. The plan also calls for Chu Lai to function as a large-scale logistics and cargo handling hub, as well as an aircraft maintenance center, supporting the restructuring of the North–South transport axis.
This direction is reflected in the 2021–2030 master planning with a vision to 2050, which emphasizes coordinated development, avoiding overlap, and using resources efficiently.
In Notice 124/TB-BXD dated April 1, 2026, Deputy Minister of Construction Le Anh Tuan asked the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to review forecast data—particularly for cargo transport—to ensure alignment with local conditions and potential. The review is intended to form the basis for investment planning for Chu Lai International Airport.
With passenger volumes rising, Da Nang International Airport is moving toward saturation. This is cited as the impetus to study upgrading Chu Lai to an international airport of 4F class, the highest standard mentioned in the source.
Under the proposed approach, the two airports are intended not to compete but to share strategic roles. Da Nang Airport would continue serving as the gateway for high-end tourism flights, while Chu Lai would be positioned to support low-cost carriers—helping attract mass tourism and accommodate long-term passenger growth.
Da Nang’s attractiveness extends beyond major destinations such as My Khe Beach and the Son Tra Peninsula. The city is also described as continually reinventing itself to sustain visitor interest, including the nostalgic appeal of Hoi An’s ancient streets and the Son My sanctuary now within the city’s boundaries.
Travelers can also visit the Da Nang Downtown entertainment complex in the city center. For Japanese culture enthusiasts, Mikazuki 365 hot springs are highlighted, while festival programming includes the flower and music festival series atop Sun World Ba Na Hills.

Premium gym chains are entering a “golden era” that is ending or already in decline, as rising operating costs collide with shifting consumer preferences toward more flexible, community-based ways to exercise. Long-term memberships are shrinking, margins are pressured by higher rents and facility expenses, and competition from smaller, more personalized…
