General Secretary and President To Lam and wife depart Hanoi for a state visit to China

On 14 April 2026, at the invitation of Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of the People’s Republic of China, General Secretary and President To Lam of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, accompanied by his wife Ngo Phuong Ly and a high-level Vietnamese delegation, departed Hanoi to undertake a state visit to China from 14 to 17 April 2026.

Timing and context

The visit is the first state visit by General Secretary and President To Lam in his capacity as the top leader of the Party and State. It takes place exactly one year after Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Vietnam (14–15 April 2025).

It is also the third such high-level exchange in less than two years between the two Parties and two countries.
