Hannah Olala, whose real name is Hannah Nguyen, has discussed the sale of a stake in Skinetiq, a company she co-founded and helped develop with Bui Ngoc Anh.
On February 10, Skinetiq announced it had sold 75 percent of its equity to Marico South-East Asia Corporation (MSEA), a subsidiary of the Marico Group. The implied equity valuation was disclosed at 350 crore rupees (about USD 40.7 million), drawing significant public attention.
In a recent long post on social media, Olala said she sold the stake despite the brand being in a growth phase. She described how, in 2019, she was managing multiple responsibilities at once, including running a social commerce-focused company, distributing the AHC brand, nurturing her own brand, operating a dermatology clinic, and working as a content creator.
She said that around early 2020, when the AHC distribution and social commerce activities were profitable, she and Bui Ngoc Anh discussed partnering to participate in AHC distribution and build a cosmetics brand. According to Olala, the two separated this venture from the social-commerce business to form Skinetiq, with Anh running the business while she led product development and brand marketing. Skinetiq later obtained exclusive distribution rights for Murad.
Olala said that after six years of operation, Skinetiq had achieved strong growth, but the founders’ circumstances changed. She stated that Anh planned to relocate abroad to care for his child studying abroad, while she wanted to focus on developing the social-commerce and livestreaming business, which she still manages and views as having larger-scale potential.
She added that the “most reasonable approach” was to find a professional, reputable partner to help the company continue growing, and that this could also support the Candid brand she had helped nurture. Olala said that as the company grows, valuation would improve, making the timing appropriate.
She also said that in the near future Skinetiq’s product line, operating methods, and team would not undergo major changes. The company would restructure so that Anh continues to lead from abroad, while Olala remains involved in brand development and customer programs.
Olala is the real name of Hannah Nguyen, born in 1984 in Buon Ma Thuot. She grew up in the United States and studied Economics at the City University of New York. She returned to Vietnam in 2011, pursued beauty, and has served as Brand Manager for 23 premium cosmetics brands and General Manager at VinDS Beauty. She has collaborated with large groups including L’Oréal, Shiseido, Estée Lauder, and is described as a prominent figure in Vietnam’s beauty industry.
Beyond Skinetiq, Olala and her husband own EZS Joint Stock Company, which distributes many high-end cosmetics brands and develops an ecosystem including fashion, spa, and hair salons. She is also described as a pioneer of a multi-platform affiliate marketing model and runs the Olala MCN ecosystem in beauty and lifestyle. She currently has millions of followers and frequently appears at brand events, known by the nickname “Phú bà.”
