Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hue City, Nguyen Khac Toan, hosted the Consulate General of the Republic of Belarus in Ho Chi Minh City, led by Mr. Alexander Sidoruk. The meeting outlined several substantive directions for cooperation between Hue and Belarusian partners in the coming period.
Hue leaders said the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Belarus has been reinforced, particularly after the two countries established a Strategic Partnership. On that basis, Hue seeks to further promote bilateral cooperation activities at the local level.
In presenting its development priorities, Hue said it is aiming to build a centrally administered city model combining heritage, culture, ecology and smart city elements.
Hue highlighted that the locality has a synchronized transport infrastructure covering all modes of transport, including Phu Bai International Airport and port areas such as Phong Dien, Thuan An and Chan May.
The city also pointed to the Tam Giang–Cau Hai estuary—described as the largest estuary system in Southeast Asia—as an important advantage for developing the maritime economy and ecotourism.
Regarding international cooperation, Hue and Belarusian partners have initial connections mainly in education and training, through cooperation between Hue University and Belarusian educational institutions. Hue noted that investment, trade and tourism still have substantial room to develop.
Based on the discussion, Hue City proposed that the Belarus Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City continue to support connections and promote cooperation between the two sides. The focus areas include investment promotion, trade, industry, agriculture, tourism and services, with an expansion into information technology and digital transformation.
Hue also expressed the desire to strengthen educational cooperation through student and faculty exchanges and scholarships.
