Construction of a waste-to-energy plant in Trạm Thản commune, Phú Thọ province, has a total investment of more than 2,000 billion VND and a designed capacity of 1,000 tons of waste per day. The project began in 2017 and, once operational, is expected to collect, transport, and treat 70% of Phú Thọ’s waste.
The waste incineration area—the core component of the project using waste-to-energy technology—has a designed capacity of about 1,000 tons per day. The facility is intended to reduce landfilling and replace traditional disposal methods.
The plant’s turbine electricity generation system is expected to produce about 18 MW of electricity when fully operational.
According to the province’s plan, waste from multiple locations will be transported to the plant for centralized processing, helping ensure a stable feedstock. Some project components are still under completion, while the main equipment and structures are largely finished. Reports indicate the project has surpassed 90% of construction work and is being accelerated toward early commissioning, with the goal of treating most of Phú Thọ’s household waste.
The Prime Minister has included the project in the national power development plan since 2019.
