As the 30/4–1/5 holiday approaches, Traveloka says Vietnamese travelers are changing how they plan trips. Rather than prioritizing long-distance travel, demand is shifting toward shorter, more intentional getaways focused on the quality of the experience.
The trend is being described as “Micro-Holiday,” with travelers favoring short trips of about 2–3 days planned with purpose. Traveloka’s data indicates that, ahead of the upcoming holiday, demand for two- to three-day getaways has risen by nearly 40%.
Traveloka reports the shift is especially visible in demand for destinations close to major cities and reachable within short travel times. Domestic short-haul flight searches grew by more than 40% year over year, with notable increases on routes including Hanoi–Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City–Phu Quoc, and Hanoi–Hue.
The company also links the “Micro-Holiday” trend to nature. Interest in destinations near major urban centers has risen sharply, with:
Traveloka says the motivation behind shorter itineraries is not only easier travel, but a clearer sense of what makes a trip meaningful. The destinations showing the strongest search momentum share common traits, including inspiring natural scenery, distinct local character, and experiences that provide genuine energy renewal rather than only entertainment.
Alongside domestic short trips, Traveloka says international destinations in Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia continue to attract travelers. For this holiday period, total searches for air tickets and accommodations are rising by around 30%, indicating ongoing interest in international options that can be reached easily and experienced within short timeframes.
Travel planning behavior is also changing. Traveloka reports a rise in early bookings and in packaged bookings that combine flights, hotels, and activities into a single itinerary. The company says travelers are increasingly using platforms to gather information, plan more purposefully, and prioritize convenience by meeting multiple needs in one place.
To support demand during peak travel season, Traveloka has launched the “Holiday Fiesta” campaign, offering discounts up to 50% and vouchers worth up to 2 million dong across travel services including air tickets, hotels, and activities.
Ms. Baidi Li, Vice President of Commerce at Traveloka, said: “As a platform serving millions of travelers every day, Traveloka has a clear view of how travel behavior is changing in real time. And what we are seeing now is a very notable shift: short trips are no longer a fallback option but are becoming the new preferred choice. Travelers are increasingly proactive in choosing destinations, planning earlier, and prioritizing experiences that truly matter. This is a generation of travelers who clearly understands what they want from a trip, and our role is to help them easily find it.”
Premium gym chains are entering a “golden era” that is ending or already in decline, as rising operating costs collide with shifting consumer preferences toward more flexible, community-based ways to exercise. Long-term memberships are shrinking, margins are pressured by higher rents and facility expenses, and competition from smaller, more personalized…
