On April 15, the Phu Tho Provincial Police’s electronic information portal posted a notice from Van Xuan Commune Police on how to handle cases of lost passports.
According to the notice, Van Xuan commune has seen ongoing cases in which people lose their passports but do not report the loss to authorities as required. The police said this can affect citizens’ rights and complicate security and order management.
The police noted that, under the law, a passport is an important document used for immigration purposes and also serves as a basis for identifying citizens in many transactions. When passports are lost and individuals do not report promptly, it can create opportunities for bad actors to misuse the document for illegal immigration, fraud, or other violations.

In 2026, Van Xuan Commune Police detected and fined three cases of citizens who lost their passports but did not report in accordance with regulations. Each case was fined 1,250,000 VND.

The police emphasized that complying with reporting requirements helps protect personal information, reduces the risk of misuse, and improves state management of immigration—contributing to maintaining public order and security and supporting socio-economic development.
