Prime Minister Le Minh Hung proposed that China create more favorable conditions for Vietnamese agricultural, aquatic, and livestock products to access its market, and urged that bilateral trade be advanced in a more balanced and sustainable direction. The proposal was made during a meeting with Han Wei, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China in Vietnam, on May 12 at the Government Office.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said Vietnam–China relations have continued to show positive developments, especially after the recent state visit to China by General Secretary and President To Lam. He said the visit helped strengthen political trust, reinforce strategic orientation, and lift the two countries’ relationship to a new height.
On economic cooperation, the Prime Minister said the two sides should continue promoting trade development toward a balanced, healthy, and sustainable path. He called for priority to be given to expanding connections in strategic infrastructure and rail cooperation.
He also proposed developing strong cross-border economic corridors, logistics centers, border-gate economic zones, and industrial clusters near the border. In parallel, he urged accelerating the construction of smart border gates and the operation of cross-border economic cooperation zones.
A key emphasis was facilitating Vietnamese goods’ access to the Chinese market. The Prime Minister urged China to support Vietnam’s effective participation in the “Shared Market – China Export” program and to open further to Vietnamese agricultural, seafood, and livestock products.
Beyond trade, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung expressed a desire to enhance cooperation in science and technology, education and training, health, and tourism. He said Vietnam proposed developing a concrete plan to implement a Vietnam–China Year of Tourism for 2026–2027, and expanding cooperation in traditional medicine.
On the Chinese side, Ambassador Han Wei said China attaches importance to and prioritizes its relationship with Vietnam, and affirmed that China will work with Vietnam to implement the high-level common understandings between the leaders of the two countries.
The ambassador said bilateral relations have continued to yield positive results, including frequent high-level contacts, sustained trade growth, and a shift of investment toward high-tech and innovative sectors. He also noted that Vietnam and China remain each other’s leading source of international tourists.
Regarding the “Shared Market – China Export” program, China welcomed Vietnam’s participation and pledged to facilitate Vietnamese goods—especially agricultural products—entering this market. Ambassador Han Wei also affirmed that China is ready to share experiences with Vietnam in building a free-trade zone, an international financial center, and developing rail infrastructure.
Accordingly, the two countries will promote cooperation in technology, rail engineering, and expanding rail connectivity from Vietnam to the Asia–Europe region. The sides also discussed potential expansion of cooperation in science and technology, innovation, and energy security.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung reiterated that developing relations with China remains Vietnam’s consistent policy and a top priority in Vietnam’s independent, self-reliant and multi-lateral foreign policy.
