SpaceX is weighing buying Cursor or entering into a strategic partnership to expand its position in the rapidly growing AI coding market. According to the disclosed information, SpaceX has secured an option to buy Cursor for $60 billion by the end of this year, or alternatively spend $10 billion to establish a cooperative relationship. Cursor is a Silicon Valley startup specializing in AI technology to automate code writing. Along with OpenAI and Anthropic, Cursor is one of the companies attracting a large number of developers thanks to its ability to apply AI to programming — a field considered a bright spot in the commercial outlook of the AI industry today. This agreement could help xAI, the company developing the Grok chatbot that merged with SpaceX in February, strengthen its position in the AI programming segment, where the firm still trails behind competitors. At the same time, Cursor would gain computing power to develop AI models. SpaceX said that combining Cursor's product with the Colossus supercomputer system — a large-scale AI training computer cluster in Memphis — would enable more efficient development of AI models. This system is described by xAI as one of the world's largest AI supercomputers. The information was announced amid SpaceX's preparations for a public listing, with an estimated valuation of nearly $1.75 trillion and a target to raise about $75 billion — potentially the largest IPO in history. Earlier, in March, two Cursor product-technical leaders joined SpaceX to work on space and AI projects. Elon Musk also expressed expectations to develop orbital space centers and lunar infrastructure in the future. Source: Mạnh Dương
