Retail markets nationwide posted a strong surge during the holiday period as shoppers flocked to supermarkets and shopping centers, lifting both sales and transaction volumes. Analysts said domestic market growth since the start of the year points to a revival in purchasing power, supported by higher demand during the holidays and the Tet festival, as well as an increase in international visitors. This has been a key driver for the wholesale and retail services sectors over the past four months.
At the same time, flexible price-management policies for gasoline and diesel have helped stabilize input costs, contributing to stable overall price levels for goods.
Modern distribution systems are playing an increasingly central role in market regulation. Consumers are shifting from traditional markets to supermarkets, with rising expectations for quality, traceability, and a better shopping experience.
Building on the momentum from the 30 April–1 May holiday, the Co.op Mart supermarket chain said it will continue discount programs of up to 50% on more than 10,000 essential items from now until May 13. The promotions cover categories including personal care, laundry, and nutritious foods. Fresh products such as VietGAP-certified meat, fish, and eggs, along with vegetables with green Tick sustainability, are included, with discounts up to 30% or buy-2-get-1 offers paired with farm produce gifts. In addition, convenient items such as beverages and ice cream are discounted up to 50%.
Lotte Mart is also rolling out the promotion program “Essential goods, ultra-cheap prices,” valid through May 19, with many items deeply discounted. Examples mentioned include Sunlight dish soap, Bao Minh ST25 rice, a 30-pack of Mì 3 miền noodles, combo sauces and Nam Ngư fish sauce, and Cooking Tường An oil.
Meanwhile, WinMart’s promotion “Summer fun, cooling relief” features significant price cuts on items including VietGap chicken thigh, Chả cá, snow crab mushrooms, green-skinned pomelo, and watermelon.
Retailers said consumer demand for quality, traceability, and shopping experience continues to rise as they place greater emphasis on product origin and customer service. The combination of holiday-driven demand, increased visitor arrivals, and stable input costs is supporting activity across the wholesale and retail service sectors.

Long-term memberships are shrinking, margins are pressured by higher rents and facility expenses, and competition from smaller, more personalized…
