On 20 April 2026, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) adjusted the central rate to 25,103 VND/USD, up 1 VND from 25,102 VND/USD in the previous session (17 April). With a trading band of ±5%, the ceiling rate was set at 26,358.15 VND/USD. The SBV also listed the reference rate at the Trading Center, with a buying rate of 23,898 VND/USD and a selling rate of 26,308 VND/USD.
Compared with the rates listed at 15 commercial banks on the same day, the USD price level tended to rise slightly. All credit institutions increased the selling price by 1 VND/USD compared with 17 April, moving closer to the ceiling rate of 26,358 VND/USD.
On the buy side, banks raised USD purchase prices within a wider range of 1–167 VND, mostly between 26,128 and 26,180 VND/USD. As of 16:30 on 20 April, VietinBank recorded the largest increase on the buy side, up 167 VND to 26,123 VND/USD (transfer), while its selling price reached 26,358 VND/USD, implying a spread of about 226 VND/USD.
BIDV and Agribank listed transfer-buying at 26,138 VND/USD and selling at 26,358 VND/USD, resulting in a bid-ask gap of about 220 VND/USD. Compared with 17 April, Agribank’s buy and sell prices rose by 1 VND each, while BIDV’s buy price rose by 11 VND and its sell price by 1 VND.
Vietcombank’s buying price was the lowest among the four big banks at 26,128 VND/USD, while its selling price was also set at 26,358 VND/USD, with a gap of about 230 VND/USD.
Among private and foreign banks, buying prices generally increased, though some institutions reduced buy-side quotes versus 17 April. Techcombank trimmed by 1 to 26,156 VND/USD; VPBank fell about 3 to 26,169 VND/USD; MBBank fell 2 to 26,135 VND/USD. Sacombank declined by as much as 87 to 26,140 VND/USD for transfers.
Banks including ACB, Eximbank, and LPBank reported no change in buying prices, keeping them at 26,150 VND/USD with a spread around 208 VND/USD.
As of 15:00 on 20 April 2026, the selling price at all commercial banks remained at 26,358 VND/USD. HSBC had the highest buying price at 26,180 VND/USD, while Vietcombank and TPBank had the lowest at 26,128 VND/USD. The difference between the highest and lowest buying prices was 52 VND per USD.
Across the broader banking market, the bid-ask spread ranged from 189 to 230 VND/USD, with state-owned banks tending to maintain a wider spread.
In the free market, the USD price stayed higher than in the banking system, trading around 26,630 VND/USD (buy) and 26,670 VND/USD (sell). Compared with 17 April, these free-market prices rose by 20 VND and 10 VND per USD, respectively.
The gap between the bank rate and the free market was about 450–502 VND/USD on the buy side and about 312 VND/USD on the sell side.
