Speaker Trần Thanh Mẫn conveyed greetings from General Secretary and President Tô Lâm to President Sergio Mattarella and congratulated Italy on the important achievements it has attained under his leadership. The Speaker said that despite the geographical distance, Vietnam and Italy share deep cultural and historical commonalities, which he described as a foundation for further advancing the bilateral Strategic Partnership and upgrading relations in the coming period.
To realize these objectives, Speaker Trần Thanh Mẫn proposed that both countries promote the role of their legislatures and strengthen oversight of the implementation of bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements. He also called for emphasis on expanding cooperation in science and technology, artificial intelligence (AI), innovation, and the training of high-quality human resources.
President Sergio Mattarella highly valued the significance of the visit, noting that it is the first top leadership visit from Vietnam to Italy since the election of the 16th National Assembly and the consolidation of the state apparatus. Through Speaker Trần Thanh Mẫn, he extended congratulations to General Secretary and President Tô Lâm and expressed confidence that the visit will create new momentum to strengthen bilateral ties.
President Mattarella proposed continuing to boost two-way trade, which he described as a pillar area with significant potential in the bilateral relationship. Beyond economic cooperation, he suggested expanding exchanges in fashion design, culture, tourism, and education.
On global and regional issues, President Sergio Mattarella emphasized the importance of protecting peace and strongly supporting multilateralism amid many complex and unpredictable developments. The two leaders agreed to intensify cooperation and mutual support at international and regional organizations, with a focus on the United Nations.
On regional and international issues, Vietnam and Italy share a common vision and agreed to resolve disputes peacefully, based on the rule of law.
