Austria’s Food Safety Authority and Health Agency notified on April 19 that HiPP, the German-Swiss infant-food maker, and the SPAR supermarket chain have recalled all 190-gram jars of HiPP Vegetable Carrot with Potato baby food across 1,500 stores nationwide due to suspected rodenticide content.
On the evening of April 19, the Acting Director of the Food Safety Authority (Ministry of Health), Chu Quoc Thinh, issued Official Letter No. 636/ATTP-SP to the Department of Health of provinces/cities, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety, and other provincial units regarding a warning about HiPP infant foods.
According to the authority, the Austrian Food Safety and Health Authority notified HiPP and SPAR to recall all 190-gram jars across 1,500 stores nationwide due to suspected rodenticide in the product.
To protect consumers’ health, the authority asked the Departments of Health and Food Safety, as well as provincial bodies, to promptly carry out the following steps:
The authority also instructed units to report recall results to the Food Safety Authority by April 27, 2026.
Later on April 19, the Food Safety Authority sent Official Letter No. 635/ATTP-SP to the Department of E-Commerce and Digital Economy under the Ministry of Industry and Trade regarding managing food trading on e-commerce platforms.
In the letter, the authority requested that e-commerce platforms and online store pages halt sales of the recalled lots if present in Vietnam, remove information about the substandard product, and take lawful action as required.
