At its meeting on May 12, the Secretariat issued a decision to discipline and expel from the Party Vu The Phiet, the former chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), for violations that caused serious consequences.
Along with Phiet, the Secretariat also expelled two former leaders: Nguyễn Văn Bường, former Chief Judge of the Da Nang High Court, and Lê Văn Hà, former member of the Ninh Bình Provincial Party Committee.
Based on the request from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection regarding the discipline of Party members who violated Party regulations, the Secretariat concluded that Vu The Phiet, Lê Văn Hà, and Nguyễn Văn Bường had deteriorated in political ideology, ethics, and lifestyle. The Secretariat also determined that they violated Party rules and the State’s laws in the course of their duties, including in anti-corruption, waste, and negativity, and that they violated prohibitions on what Party members may not do, as well as the responsibility to set an example.
The Secretariat stated that these violations resulted in very serious consequences, triggering public outrage and causing a significant negative impact on the prestige of the Party organization, local government, and the agency. It proposed that administrative discipline be implemented promptly in parallel with Party discipline.
Regarding ACV, the Central Commission for Discipline expelled from the Party Lại Xuân Thanh, former Party Secretary and former Chairman of ACV, and Nguyễn Tiến Việt, Deputy Secretary of the ACV Party Committee and Deputy General Director in charge of ACV.
Earlier, on March 4, ACV received information that Chairman Vu The Phiet and Deputy Chairman Nguyễn Tiến Việt were detained by the Ministry of Public Security to investigate violations of bidding rules causing particularly serious consequences and receiving money to facilitate bidders’ success.
Vu The Phiet, born in 1973, holds a Master of Business Administration. He previously served as Director of Noi Bai International Airport from 2012 to 2017, Deputy General Director of ACV from 2017 to 2018, and General Director of ACV from 2018 to 2024. He has served as Chairman of ACV since 2024.
