Late on April 14, the crypto market rose sharply. According to data from OKX, Bitcoin gained 5% over the previous 24 hours to $74,400, its highest level in nearly a month.
Ethereum also climbed, rising nearly 9% to $2,370. XRP and BNB increased by more than 3%, to $1.30 and $616 respectively. Solana rose nearly 5% to $85.9.
Cointelegraph reported that Bitcoin’s rally triggered a broad wave of liquidations. CoinGlass data showed about 177,000 accounts had positions liquidated in the last 24 hours, with total losses around $530 million, largely occurring in the last 12 hours.
About 80% of the liquidations were short positions, but the market’s strong rise left investors facing significant losses.
The total value of the crypto market rose to around $2.6 trillion, the highest level in a month. Bitcoin was trading around $74,410, after briefly nearing $75,000 on Coinbase before a slight correction.
Ether rose more strongly, reaching around $2,380, its highest level since early February.
Some analysts said the rally is mainly technical, driven by a “short squeeze,” and may not be sustainable. In addition to technical factors, the broader market was supported by expectations that tensions between the US and Iran could ease.
