On April 6, 2026, the Hanoi Police organized a press information conference on security and public order results for the first quarter of 2026 and several typical cases. Regarding the accounting violation case at Bao Tin Minh Chau Gold Co., the Hanoi Police said investigators have indicted the case, charging Mr. Vu Minh Chau, the former director of Bao Tin Minh Chau Co.; Mr. Vu Minh Tu, the head of the independent assistant unit (Chau's son) and two company employees. Investigators determined that Chau and Tu directed staff to use two accounting software systems. From late 2024 to present, Chau directed Tu and the staff to delete all software data. An extraction of 2020-2023 from the company's software shows actual revenue of about 13.7 trillion VND, a discrepancy relative to reported tax of about 9.7 trillion VND, resulting in a state loss of about 150 billion VND. During searches, investigators seized 23.3 billion VND in cash, seven land-use certificates, and related assets. Earlier, on the afternoon of March 25, police appeared at several Bao Tin Minh Chau gold stores in Hanoi. The outlets then closed, suspending operations. By around 16:35, police had removed many boxes of documents and equipment from the Bao Tin Minh Chau store on Tran Nhan Tong Street (Hanoi). Later that day, Bao Tin Minh Chau Gold Co. issued a press release to clarify information about stores in Hanoi that had suspended trading. The company said all stores would reopen and serve customers normally from 12:00 noon on March 26. Regarding the matter, Ms Pham Lan Anh, the company’s director (current representative), said that while cooperating with the police, operations at Bao Tin Minh Chau outlets would continue normally in line with the company’s over 40-year principle "trust more than gold". The company also pledged to fully safeguard the legal rights and interests of customers, partners, and employees across the system.
