Hanoi and Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan discussed cooperation opportunities during a visit by a Yamanashi delegation led by Governor Nagasaki Kotaro, hosted by Hanoi People’s Committee Chairman Vu Dai Thang. The talks focused on expanding practical collaboration in areas aligned with both localities’ development priorities, particularly green technology and sustainable urban development.
Chairman Vu Dai Thang said Hanoi highly valued the Yamanashi delegation’s visit and viewed it as a starting point for new, substantive, and more effective cooperation directions between the two localities. Proposed areas included smart urban development, environmental management, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and promoting business connectivity.
Hanoi’s leadership stated that the capital is implementing solutions toward a model of green, smart, and sustainable urban development. The city is preparing to establish low-emission zones, promote an energy transition, encourage the use of electric vehicles, and strengthen the application of technology in urban management.
Hanoi indicated these efforts are areas where it seeks to learn from international experience, including from Japanese localities such as Yamanashi, which has strengths in green technology and sustainable development.
Governor Nagasaki affirmed that Yamanashi is a leading region in Japan’s green transition and has potential in cultural development, heritage, and tourism. He also highlighted Yamanashi’s readiness to share experiences with Hanoi, particularly in hydrogen technology, described as an important approach in clean energy development that Yamanashi is pursuing toward carbon neutrality.
Hanoi proposed strengthening cooperation in education and training, with an emphasis on student exchanges, researchers, and the development of high-quality human resources. Hanoi said enhancing youth exchanges would improve human resources quality and also serve as a sustainable bridge to foster long-term friendship between the two localities.
Chairman Vu Dai Thang noted that both Hanoi and Yamanashi have rich cultural heritages and distinctive values. He proposed that the two sides strengthen cooperation in tourism and cultural exchanges, intensify image promotion, and create favorable conditions to attract two-way tourist flows.
The two sides discussed long-term cooperation directions, including promoting technology transfer, applying green solutions in urban transport development, building environmentally friendly infrastructure, and cooperating in sustainable urban planning. They also agreed to increase inter-level delegations, connect business communities, and facilitate the early implementation of specific cooperation projects to gradually realize the commitments.
Governor Nagasaki expressed the desire that Hanoi continues to pay attention to and facilitate youth exchanges, study, and cultural interaction. Both sides said they are confident the cooperation will expand in a substantive, effective, and sustainable direction, contributing to the socio-economic development of each locality and supporting Vietnam–Japan relations at a higher, deeper, and more comprehensive level.
