The shortage of components and rising memory costs are forcing PC makers to abandon the low-end segment and push all their resources into higher-margin products to preserve profitability. The sub-$500 segment (about 12.7 million dong), which accounts for most educational devices and everyday users, is the hardest hit. Smaller suppliers are particularly at risk of being squeezed out as component allocation shifts increasingly toward higher-end products. Omdia forecasts the PC market under $500 could fall as much as 35%. Meanwhile, the $1,300 to $1,499 range (roughly 33 to 38 million dong) has seen meaningful sales growth. This trend makes it difficult for brands that previously targeted budget gamers, such as ASUS and Acer, to maintain a presence in the lower-price segment. OEMs are looking for a way out through AI servers. Facing a weak consumer outlook, many PC manufacturers are expanding into AI server offerings. Rather than depending solely on individual consumers, these OEMs are shifting toward becoming infrastructure providers for the AI boom — a path that helps offset declining revenue from the traditional PC market.
