Police in Gia Lai province have warned of a series of scams targeting parents and students during the upcoming exam season, saying fraudsters are exploiting exam anxiety to commit financial crimes.
In a warning issued on 12 April, Gia Lai Police said perpetrators often pose as education officials, school staff, or admissions counselors and contact parents and students by telephone or social media.
They typically claim they can interfere with exam scores, guarantee admission, or arrange special consideration. After gaining victims’ trust, they demand deposits or processing fees. Once money is received, many fraudsters stop responding and cut off contact.
Authorities also noted that scammers create fake websites or fan pages impersonating schools or education authorities. These pages lure victims with admissions offers, scholarships, and other enticing information, while requesting personal data or registration fees to steal assets.
Another tactic involves sending fake links to “check exam scores.” When users open the links and enter personal information, their accounts can be compromised.
Gia Lai Police urged parents and students to remain vigilant and verify information through official channels of the Ministry of Education and Training or directly with the schools.
They advised that victims should not share personal information, bank account details, or OTPs with anyone, and should not transfer money to strangers without verification.
If signs of fraud are detected, authorities said people should report to the police promptly for assistance.
