On 2 April, the Hanoi Police Department’s Investigative Police Agency issued a decision to prosecute Mr. Vu Minh Chau, former Director of Bao Tin Minh Chau Gold Co., Ltd., and his son Vu Minh Tu, along with two accounting staff, for violations of accounting regulations causing serious consequences. The investigation period from 2020 to 2023 found a discrepancy between the company’s actual revenue and its tax filings of about 9.7 trillion VND, resulting in an estimated loss of about 150 billion VND to the State budget.
The Hanoi Police Investigative Bureau has issued an indictment in the case, charging four defendants with violations of accounting regulations causing serious consequences at Bao Tin Minh Chau Co., Ltd.
According to the investigation, Bao Tin Minh Chau previously operated production, trading, and business in gold and jewelry, with Mr. Chau serving as General Director and legal representative. From 28 October 2024 to the present, Chau is no longer the company’s legal representative.
Before 2024, Chau and his son Tu (Head of the Independent Assistant) instructed accounting staff to use software systems to manage and declare taxes. From the latter half of 2024 to the present, to avoid scrutiny by authorities, Chau directed his son and staff to delete all data on the software and switch to using Excel together with Fox AI sales software to manage and monitor goods purchases. The accounting department then filtered, checked, and consolidated the data before uploading it to the Misa accounting software for tax declarations.
The investigation determined that Bao Tin Minh Chau’s real revenue from 2020 to 2023 was about 13.7 trillion VND, while the discrepancy with the company’s tax reports was about 9.7 trillion VND. The case is assessed to have caused about 150 billion VND in losses to the State budget.
During searches of residences, workplaces, and related locations, authorities seized 23.3 billion VND in cash, seven “red books” of land ownership, along with many documents and items, and a large quantity of gold and silver metals.
The Hanoi Police Investigative Bureau continues to expand the investigation, clarifying violations by related parties and pursuing strict handling under the law.
