From 5 April 2026, passenger train fares were adjusted upward by 3%, while freight charges increased by 3–5% depending on train type. The company said the change was made in response to a sharp rise in domestic fuel prices.
Diesel prices rose from 37,890 dong per liter on 26 March 2026 to 44,980 dong per liter by 3 April 2026, an increase of about 18.4%. The rail sector said the fuel-driven increase in operating costs left it with limited room to delay the adjustment.
While fuel prices had fluctuated upward previously, the rail sector had not yet adjusted fares. In light of the sudden jump in input costs, it implemented the price changes from 5 April to support balanced operations.

Alongside the fare and freight adjustments, the rail sector announced a plan to boost transport during peak periods for the Hung Kings’ Festival and the 30 April–1 May 2026 holidays, with a focus on the Southern region.
Regular services on North–South trains SE1/2, SE3/4, SE5/6, SE7/8, SE9/10, SE21/22, and SNT1/2 will continue as scheduled.
The rail sector urged passengers to buy tickets early to secure seats during the peak period. Tickets can be purchased at stations, at agencies, on the rail sector’s official website, and via electronic payment apps and banks.
Passengers are advised to arrive at the station 30 minutes to 1 hour before departure, travel light (no more than 20 kg per ticket), and comply with safety regulations during travel.
