Ripple is expanding XRP’s role in automated payments by launching the XRPL AI Starter Kit on June 10, aiming to help developers build agentic payment applications on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). The tools are designed for AI agents that can pay for compute and data, settle invoices, and complete transactions with limited human direction.
Ripple said the XRPL AI Starter Kit includes tools and integrations to build agentic payment applications on XRPL. The launch specifically supports X402-powered payments using XRP and Ripple USD (RLUSD), enabling AI agents to transact for APIs, compute, and other digital services.
Ripple also described Phase 1 access for developers to help make XRPL easier to use in AI payment applications. The starter kit allows Claude to create wallets, check balances, send payments, and track transactions. It also provides AI coding tools access to XRPL documentation, along with new xrpl.org pages that outline how to test agent-driven payments step by step.
Ripple’s argument for machine-led XRP payments centers on XRPL design features that it says support predictable and fast transaction execution. The source points to deterministic finality, predictable transaction costs, native multi-currency payments, a built-in decentralized exchange, and settlement in 3 to 5 seconds.
Ripple also highlighted controls and reliability features it says may matter for institutional adoption. These include escrow, multi-signing, deposit authorization, and trust lines, which Ripple says can define counterparties, spending permissions, and approvals without custom smart contracts. Ripple further cited XRPL’s continuous operation since 2012 and said there have been no transaction rollbacks.
Mastercard’s Agent Pay for Machines (AP4M) initiative adds a wider enterprise backdrop to Ripple’s launch. Mastercard introduced AP4M on June 10 with more than 30 partners, including RippleX, Coinbase, Stripe, and the Solana Foundation, to support AI agents that authorize and settle transactions.
In this context, XRPL and RLUSD are positioned at the center of Ripple’s role in Mastercard’s AI payments effort, where permissioning, controls, and settlement reliability are described as key factors for enterprise use cases.
J. Ayo Akinyele, head of engineering at RippleX, said on X that the agent economy is arriving faster than many expect and that billions of dollars in value could move through agent-to-agent workflows. He described AI agents paying for services, accessing data, and settling transactions autonomously.
Akinyele also said Ripple is building XRPL to be infrastructure for agentic payments and commerce, describing the XRPL AI Starter Kit as an initial step that gives developers tools to build with XRP and RLUSD. He added that the future involves AI agents paying, transacting, and coordinating at internet scale.
Ripple’s framing suggests that institutions may evaluate agent payments based on control and reliability as much as speed. The company points to escrow, multi-signing, deposit authorization, and trust lines as mechanisms for managing approvals and spending permissions, alongside settlement performance and operational continuity.

Coinbase has launched a High Yield USDC vault within its in-app DeFi lending offering, adding a second lending option that provides exposure to a wider range of collateral assets. The product is powered by Morpho infrastructure and uses vault allocations curated by Steakhouse Financial.
