During a press conference, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said he was pleased to welcome General Secretary and State President To Lâm and the high-level Vietnamese delegation to Sri Lanka. He said the visit reflects Vietnam’s regard for Sri Lanka as a traditional partner in South Asia and contributes to friendship and cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of both countries, for peace, cooperation and development in the region and in the world.
The Sri Lankan President appreciated Vietnam’s development achievements and said he was impressed by the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He stressed the long-standing friendship between the two countries and the affection of the Sri Lankan people for Ho Chi Minh. He expressed a desire to continue expanding cooperation with Vietnam in potential fields, especially culture, education, religion, and people-to-people exchanges, and to strengthen coordination at multilateral forums and on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
General Secretary and State President To Lâm thanked Sri Lanka for the warm welcome and congratulated Sri Lanka on its important socio-economic development results. He expressed confidence that Sri Lanka will reach its development goals soon.
Information on the talks outcomes stated that the two sides valued strong friendship and mutual trust built over more than 55 years of diplomatic relations. They shared views on the region and the world and noted that both countries face many opportunities and similar interests to develop bilateral ties to a new height.
The sides agreed to upgrade Vietnam–Sri Lanka relations to a Comprehensive Partnership. They also committed to maintaining high political trust and expanding and deepening cooperation comprehensively and substantively in all fields.

The two sides agreed to promote cooperation in economic, trade, investment, agriculture, energy, and science and technology for mutual benefit. They also agreed to implement measures to achieve the target of bilateral trade of USD 1 billion and to move toward a future trade and investment agreement.
