On May 2, during talks attended by Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hùng and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Vietnam and Japan signed six cooperation documents covering rural development, infrastructure, low-carbon development, technology, and space.
Scope of the signed cooperation documents
The six documents include the following agreements and memorandums:
- Loan agreement for the Rural Development Project Adapted to Natural Disasters between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Japan (Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA).
- Loan agreement for Climate-Change-Resilient Infrastructure to support production for ethnic minority communities in Vietnam’s midland and northern mountainous provinces between the Government of Vietnam and JICA.
- Memorandum of Understanding on Low-Carbon Growth between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Japan to implement the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM).
- Memorandum of Understanding between the Vietnam Department of Irrigation Management and Construction (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) and Japan’s Rural Development Bureau on exchange of technology and techniques in the irrigation sector.
- Memorandum of Understanding between the Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology and Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on cooperation in information and communications technology and digital transformation.
- Amendment to the agreement between the Vietnam Space Center (under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on satellite data exchange.
