Vietnam, the world’s largest exporter of cashew kernels, recorded a sharp rise in raw cashew imports in April, with domestic firms spending nearly $943 million—marking the highest monthly total on record. The spike underscores how Vietnam’s processing-heavy industry continues to rely on imported raw materials as domestic supply remains limited.
According to the latest report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Vietnam imported about 543,100 tons of cashew nuts in April, worth nearly $943 million. The April import value was the largest monthly total on record and was more than double the value of cashew exports in the same period.
In the first four months of 2026, Vietnamese firms spent nearly $2.2 billion to import 1.3 million tons of cashews. This represented a year-on-year increase of 23% in volume and 32% in value. The average import price reached about $1,704 per ton, up 7.6% year-on-year.
On the export side, cashew shipments appear to be losing momentum. In April, Vietnam exported about 61,100 tons of cashew nuts, earning $433 million. Over the first four months, export turnover reached $1.3 billion on a volume of about 186,600 tons.
Compared with the same period in 2025, exports fell 4.6% in volume and 3% in value. The average export price, however, rose by nearly 2% to around $6,934 per ton.
Vinacas, the Vietnam Cashew Association, estimates that Vietnam accounts for about 80% of global cashew kernel exports. However, the domestic cashew industry is mainly strong in processing, while raw material supply covers only a small portion of production demand.
As a result, Vietnam’s raw cashew sourcing has intensified during peak season. A representative from a cashew importing company in Ho Chi Minh City said imports have surged as Vietnam turns to suppliers in Cambodia and Africa. This year, the representative noted that supplies from multiple countries are more abundant, while international prices have risen—pushing import values to record highs.
The representative added that Vietnamese enterprises play a central role in global cashew processing: imported raw cashews are peeled, roasted, processed, and then re-exported to the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.
For raw cashew imports, Cambodia remains the largest supplier to Vietnam, accounting for 51.7% of total import value. Tanzania follows with 19.9%, Ivory Coast with 11.9%, and Nigeria with 1.9%.
Supply from multiple markets rose sharply in the early months of the year. Import values from Ivory Coast and Nigeria increased 5.4 times and 4.2 times year-on-year, respectively. In the first four months of this year, cashews became Vietnam’s largest agricultural export by import value.
Premium gym chains are entering a “golden era” that is ending or already in decline, as rising operating costs collide with shifting consumer preferences toward more flexible, community-based ways to exercise.
