VPSA has warned of a serious trade fraud case involving a Vietnamese pepper exporter. The incident, which unfolded between March and May 2025, involved a foreign partner that placed an order for 21 containers of pepper but did not pay a deposit.
According to VPSA, the partner used multiple intermediary entities (including names beginning with “Co…”, “Khi…”, “Uni…”, and “Sh…”) to build initial credibility. After the Vietnamese exporter relied on trade confirmations, it shipped the goods.
VPSA said that 20 containers arrived in Karachi, Pakistan between late May and mid-July 2025. The partner then repeatedly delayed payments, citing bank confirmations or transfer processing. Fake transfer documents were reportedly provided, while additional unnecessary documents were requested to extend the payment timeline.
As payment delays continued, storage and port costs increased. To resolve the situation, the Vietnamese seller ultimately had to accept price reductions of about 25% from the original contract terms.
VPSA stated that payments were still delayed and that the process concluded only in late 2025. The total loss was estimated at about 600,000 USD (roughly 15.6 billion VND), including the impact of the price reductions, storage, logistics, and other related costs.
