Forbes’ real-time ranking shows that as of the morning of April 25, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao is Vietnam’s second-richest person after Pham Nhat Vuong, with assets of about $4.2 billion and a world ranking of 1,013.
At the April 24 shareholders’ meeting of Ho Chi Minh City Development Joint Stock Commercial Bank (HDBank, HOSE: HDB), Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao—Chairwoman of the VietJet Air Board (VJC)—is the Permanent Vice Chair of HDBank’s board and chairs Sovico Group.
She holds a PhD in economic control theory from the Mendeleev Institute, a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Credit from the Moscow Institute of Trade, and a bachelor’s degree in Economic Management from the National University of Economics in Moscow. She is also an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Systems Research.
Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao is the first Vietnamese businesswoman to be awarded the French government’s Legion of Honour. At the 11th National Emulation and Reward Congress, the Party and State awarded her the title of Hero of Labour in the reform era.
According to the information provided, Thao directly holds about 169.6 million HDB shares (after dividends and bonus shares) and about 47.5 million VJC shares. She also indirectly holds more than 154.7 million VJC shares through Sunny Direction Investment Co., Ltd.
