Con Dao Island in Vietnam, once listed among the world’s 13 most mysterious travel destinations, is moving toward a new development milestone that aims to balance preservation with growth. The approach emphasizes protecting the environment, heritage, and historical values rather than pursuing short-term economic gains.
Under this vision, Con Dao is expected to evolve into an eco-tourism and spiritual tourism destination built on three pillars: green island, smart island, and livable island.
This direction is intended to support sustainable development rather than mass tourism, while preserving the island’s distinctive appeal.
To implement the plan, Ho Chi Minh City has tasked relevant agencies with developing a strategy for the Con Dao Special Zone through 2035, with a vision to 2050. The work also includes adjusting master plans to attract investment and better harness the island’s potential.
