Exceeding production targets and maintaining disease-free operations during the African swine fever outbreak across 34 provinces and cities, Lac Thuy pig farm—Hoa Phat’s “GGP” breeding herd—delivered the best production performance in the group’s pig farming segment for the second consecutive year.
For two consecutive years, the GGP Lac Thuy sow farm has led in sow-breeding efficiency. In 2025, the farm’s weaning-to-slaughter production, replacement pigs, and market-ready pigs reached nearly 43,000 animals, surpassing the plan by 1,800 and achieving 104.4% of the target.
The average sow herd was 1,246, exceeding the annual plan. The farrowing rate stayed within 92% to 98% throughout the year. Wastage in the lactation area was 1.1%, below the target of 1.3%. Since the farm began operations, it has not recorded a disease outbreak.
Lac Thuy Farm began construction in August 2016 and started operating in April 2017 in the former Hoa Binh area (now Phu Tho), covering 40 hectares. The unit initially operated at the level of marketable breeding sows and was later upgraded to the “GGP” level as part of the group’s plan to build a closed breeding system—supplying source stock to expand the breeding herd at the Long Ha complex.
GGP is the highest level of breeding stock in Hoa Phat’s pig-breeding chain. The entire sow herd at the farm uses pure-line genetics imported from DanBred International (Denmark), including Landrace, Yorkshire, and Duroc lines.
Hoa Phat’s pig development leadership said the farm and the broader network maintained disease safety during the African swine fever outbreak through unified biosecurity measures implemented nationwide. The company added that it will continue applying new technologies and techniques to Lac Thuy and other farms in the system when suitable solutions become available, with the aim of further increasing productivity.
Lac Thuy pig farm is a unit under Hoa Phat’s Pig Development Joint Stock Company, one of Hoa Phat’s four business segments. In 2025, the pig farming segment recorded a return on equity of 83%, the highest in Hoa Phat Group, and contributed 44% of HPA’s total revenue.
Hoa Phat’s General Director of Pig Development Joint Stock Company, Nguyen Thi Thanh Van, said Lac Thuy is one of three core breeding farms in the system. The farm maintains replacement sow stock and supplies replacements to the Long Ha complex as part of the plan to increase the herd, while also providing replacement stock to the market. The strategy links breeding stock with feed manufacturing implemented by Hoa Phat Agricultural Development Joint Stock Company (HPA).
