Mr. Tran Thanh Man was re-elected as Chairman of the National Assembly for the XVI term (2026-2031), following a vote in which all 491 National Assembly deputies supported the resolution. The National Assembly approved the election of Mr. Tran Thanh Man, who previously served as Chairman of the XV National Assembly, through a secret ballot, with the results reported to the National Assembly before the resolution was passed.
Immediately after the resolution was adopted, Speaker Tran Thanh Man delivered an oath before the National Assembly and the people of Vietnam. He pledged absolute loyalty to the Fatherland and the people, to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and to strive to fulfill the duties assigned by the Party, the State, and the people.
The election was conducted by secret ballot. The National Assembly’s resolution approving Mr. Tran Thanh Man’s re-election was passed after the vote results were reported to deputies.
Mr. Tran Thanh Man was born in 1962 in Can Tho City and holds a PhD in Economics. He has held multiple leadership roles within the Communist Party and state apparatus, including long-term membership in the Party Central Committee (10th term as alternate; and 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th terms). He has also served as a member of the Politburo (13th and 14th terms) and has been a deputy in the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th National Assemblies.
His career in Can Tho includes serving as Chief of Office, Vice Chairman, and Chairman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee. He also served as Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee before moving to national-level roles, including Vice Chairman and then Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
Later on the same day, the National Assembly is scheduled to elect several Vice Chairs of the National Assembly and members of the Standing Committee. It will also elect the Chairman of the National Assembly’s Ethnic Council, the Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee, the General Auditor of the State, and the Secretary General of the National Assembly—head of the National Assembly Office.
