On April 2, 2026, the Hanoi Police Investigation Department filed a case against Vu Minh Chau, CEO of Bao Tin Minh Chau Co., Ltd., along with his son Vu Minh Tu and two accounting staff. The individuals are being investigated for alleged violations of accounting regulations that caused serious consequences in the company’s gold and jewelry business.
Initial investigation results indicate that Bao Tin Minh Chau established a parallel accounting system to conceal the company’s actual cash flow. Before 2024, the company’s accounting department, under the direction of its executives, used Hivi Gold and Excel to track all buy-sell transactions, while using only Misa software to prepare tax declarations.
From the second half of 2024, according to the investigation, Vu Minh Chau ordered data deletion on the old system and switched to using Fox AI. The accounting department then filtered and re-compiled business data before uploading it to the official software used for tax declarations to authorities.
The investigation determined that Bao Tin Minh Chau’s actual total revenue from 2020 to 2023 was about 13.7 trillion VND. However, this figure reportedly differed significantly from what was declared for tax purposes, as the company allegedly omitted about 9.7 trillion VND.
Authorities estimate that the alleged violation resulted in a loss to the State budget of about 150 billion VND.
During searches of related locations, authorities seized 23.3 billion VND in cash and seven land-use certificates. In addition, a large volume of documents, items, and gold and silver materials were seized to support the investigation.
The Hanoi Police Investigation Agency said the case is being further clarified. The matter has been identified as a large-scale accounting violation in the gold jewelry business.
