The Mid-Central Region Road Project Management Board has submitted to the Vietnam Directorate for Roads the approval of the pre-feasibility study report for an investment project to upgrade and widen several bypass sections on National Highway 1 (NH-1) running through Hà Tĩnh Province to Huế City.
According to the unit, the NH-1 segment in the area has largely been completed with a four-lane capacity, aligning with the road network planning for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. However, some bypass sections still have only two lanes, which does not meet the required capacity and may create safety risks.

Preliminary calculations estimate the total investment for upgrading and widening the five bypass sections at about 9,632 billion VND. The project is expected to use state budget funds under the 2026-2030 mid-term public investment plan.
The project is expected to be implemented from 2026 to 2029, with:
The management board said upgrading to a four-lane scale is necessary, particularly because many NH-1 segments passing through urban areas have been handed over to local authorities and converted into urban roads. The proposed widening is intended to improve traffic capacity, reduce safety risks, and ensure consistency across the route to enhance the overall effectiveness of the NH-1 corridor.
