LG Electronics (LG) announced the establishment of the Robot Business Center to focus resources on commercializing robot solutions. The new Center will connect key capabilities across the entire value chain, from business development and supply chain to manufacturing operations. Directly led by CEO Lyu Jae-cheol, the center underscores LG's commitment to driving growth in the robotics segment as a core business area in the future.
LG accelerates its robotics business through organizational restructuring. The Robot Business Center officially started operations on July 1, 2026, as part of LG's organizational restructuring outside its annual cycle. The move, four months ahead of LG's usual annual restructuring, signals a clear strategic direction toward robotics based on Physical AI.
The Center will operate as a comprehensive business unit, covering business development, sales and operations under the leadership of Song Si-yong, who previously led LG's Manufacturing Engineering Research Institute. The Center will also develop a dedicated data division. This initiative is designed to strengthen data capabilities and support robot training, thereby enhancing LG's competitiveness in the field. High-quality data harvested through this division will be used to develop a foundational model for robotics (Robot Foundation Model - RFM). As part of this strategy, LG is creating a large-scale database at the Yangjae R&D center in Seoul, expected to become operational this year.
Strengthening governance. The new governance structure aims to enhance LG's robot business efficiency through a more agile and responsive decision-making framework. It also provides a foundation for the company to push forward its strategy, gain technology autonomy, and strengthen long-term competitiveness.
The Robot Business Center will also play a role in connecting resources across the Group under the 'One LG Solution' strategy, including linking expertise from units such as LG CNS and LG AI Research; LG expects to expand strategic technology partnerships with leading global tech groups. Three-pillar strategy aimed at leading the robot market. LG will pursue robotics along three pillars to capture opportunities in industrial, commercial and consumer spaces. The Center will complement LG's expanding robot lineup, including home robots, while integrating industrial robotics from Robostar and Bear Robotics' strengths in commercial robotics. This approach will create a comprehensive product portfolio to meet future demand across diverse sectors.
LG identifies this year as the starting year for expanding its robotics portfolio, with the goal of becoming a leading provider of physical AI solutions, with robots at the core. LG will combine complete robot products, core components like actuators, data capabilities and a holistic technology ecosystem to support real-world commercialization. LG is also preparing to domestically manufacture actuators using more than 60 years of engineering expertise to meet future industry demand.
The initiative signals LG's intensified focus on robotics as a core business area, integrating LG's existing robotics capabilities across divisions under the One LG Solution approach. By improving governance and building data capabilities, LG aims to accelerate development of robotic products and underpin a foundation model for robotics. The expansion is positioned as a multi-year effort to establish LG as a leading provider of physical AI solutions with robots at the core.
