As smartphones became more widespread, some of these interactions have shifted to the digital environment, where actions can be completed more quickly and with greater clarity.
In this context, iHanoi was introduced to change how residents connect with authorities. Instead of chasing the exact channel or completing multiple intermediary steps, users can send information directly from their phones. Reports typically cover everyday issues such as deteriorating infrastructure, violations of urban order, or environmental problems—matters that are easy to notice but not always easy to relay to the responsible agencies.
Sending a report is no longer a single action. When a road is damaged or waste accumulates, residents can take a photo, add a brief description, and submit the information through the app. The content is then received by the system, automatically categorized by location, and forwarded to the competent authority for processing. This shortens the distance between discovery and entry into the management system.
A key change is the ability to track progress. After submitting a report, users can monitor its status and receive responses from the authorities. The interaction therefore continues beyond submission, forming a chain from recording and intake to handling and feedback.
For example, in a report related to urban order, users can see when the content was received, whether it is being processed, and whether it has been completed, offering a clearer view of how the system operates.
From a data perspective, these interactions also serve as an information source for city management. After deployment, the app has received thousands of on-site reports, with about 70% resolved in a short time.
The reports cover a wide range of areas, including urban civility and traffic, as well as livelihoods and the environment, reflecting the app’s role in daily life and city governance.
Beyond reporting, iHanoi is being expanded to integrate additional utilities related to everyday life. The platform’s development includes features such as traffic information, education services, and payments and community information, positioning it as more than a channel for feedback.
On a larger scale, the rollout of iHanoi reflects a broader trend in urban management: shifting interactions between residents and government toward digitization. Rather than relying entirely on traditional methods, residents now have a digital option that aligns with current technology use, helping save time and create a more direct and transparent way to connect.
