The investigative authority determined that Vu Minh Tu, the son of Vu Minh Chau, played a key role in operating two data systems at a gold trading company. According to the authorities, from late 2024 to the present, Chau directed the accounting department to run two systems in parallel to evade scrutiny: an internal system consisting of Hivi Gold, Hivi Gold Pro, and Excel used to monitor actual business activity, and the Misa accounting software used for tax declarations. Vu Minh Tu, identified as Head of the independent assistant, was described as being deeply involved in organizing and operating this setup.
The authorities said the internal system (Hivi Gold, Hivi Gold Pro, and Excel) was used to track actual business activity, while Misa was used for tax declarations. The case materials indicate that the parallel operation of these systems was intended to create differences between reported figures and actual operations.
Based on data extracted for 2020–2023 from the Hivi software, preliminary findings indicate that the company’s actual revenue from 2020 to 2023 was about 13,700 billion dong. The discrepancy relative to tax declarations is estimated at 9,700 billion dong, which the authorities believe resulted in a loss to the State budget of about 150 billion dong.
During searches of residences, workplaces, and other locations linked to the company and related individuals, authorities seized 23.3 billion dong in cash, seven land-use certificates (“red books”), and many documents and items, along with a large quantity of gold and silver metals.
On 02/04/2026, the Hanoi City Police Investigation Department issued a decision to prosecute the case and to prosecute Vu Minh Chau, his son Vu Minh Tu, and two accounting staff for the crime of Violating accounting regulations causing serious consequences. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities continuing to expand the case and clarify violations for handling under the law.
