The XRP Ledger Foundation has welcomed David Schwartz, one of the original architects of the XRP Ledger, as an Honorary Board Member, according to an announcement posted on the foundation’s official X account.
The non-profit said Schwartz’s appointment reflects his technical expertise and long experience working on blockchain infrastructure. It added that his role is expected to strengthen the group’s technical leadership and support future innovation across the XRP Ledger network.
The foundation described Schwartz as Ripple’s CTO Emeritus and a widely recognized figure in the crypto industry. It said he is expected to provide guidance on protocol upgrades, validator operations, and ecosystem development.
It also emphasized that Schwartz’s knowledge and long-standing connection to the project make him a significant addition to the organization, supporting what it called improved technical stewardship and continued decentralization efforts within the XRP Ledger community.
David Schwartz helped create the XRP Ledger in 2011 alongside Arthur Britto and Jed McCaleb. The blockchain was designed as a faster and more energy-efficient alternative to Bitcoin, with an emphasis on low transaction costs and scalability.
Over the years, Schwartz has remained active in the crypto community, engaging with developers and XRP supporters, including through social media.
While many people associate Ripple closely with XRP, the XRP Ledger Foundation said it operates independently from Ripple. The organization focuses on maintaining core repositories, supporting developers, and managing a publisher Unique Node List (UNL) for validators to help secure the network.
The announcement comes alongside other recent XRP-related coverage referenced in the article, including reported recognition for Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, who was said to have received the “Business Leader of the Year” honor from Harvard Business School.
The article also notes that Schwartz recently pushed back against speculation about extreme XRP price predictions and denied rumors of any secret Ripple-related plans.
