The Hanoi City Police Investigation Department has issued a decision to prosecute and indicted four defendants in a case involving alleged violations of accounting regulations causing serious consequences at Bao Tin Minh Chau Co., Ltd.
The company operates in the production, purchase, and sale of gold and jewelry. Vu Minh Chau serves as CEO and legal representative. From October 28, 2024 to date, Vu Minh Chau has ceased to be the company’s legal representative.
Before 2024, Vu Minh Chau and his son, Vu Minh Tu (Head of the Independent Assistant Office), allegedly directed accounting staff to use software systems to manage and declare tax reports using Hivi Gold, Hivi Gold Pro and Excel to track actual business activities, while using the Misa accounting software to declare taxes.
From the latter half of 2024 to date, the investigation alleges that to avoid oversight by authorities, Chau directed Vu Minh Tu and company staff to delete all data on the Hivi Gold and Hivi Gold Pro systems. The company allegedly switched to using Excel together with Fox AI sales software to manage and monitor purchases and sales, with accounting staff filtering, checking, and consolidating data before inputting it into Misa for tax declarations.
Police determined that Bao Tin Minh Chau Co., Ltd.’s actual revenue from 2020 to 2023 was about 13.7 trillion VND, which the investigation said differed by about 9.7 trillion VND from the company’s tax declarations. The discrepancy allegedly caused a loss to the state budget of about 150 billion VND.
Following searches of the residence, workplace, and locations used by Bao Tin Minh Chau Co., Ltd. and related persons, police recovered:
On April 2, 2026, the Hanoi City Police Investigation Department issued a decision to prosecute the case and indict Vu Minh Chau, Vu Minh Tu, and two company accountants for the crime of violations of accounting regulations causing serious consequences.
Police said they are continuing the investigation to expand the case and clarify violations by related parties for prosecution in accordance with the law.
