FPT has signed a long-term cooperation agreement aimed at accelerating digital transformation, improving productivity, and strengthening the operating backbone for Japan’s top-10 electric power group Chugoku Electric Power. The agreement is centered on AI and data, and will support the group’s broader modernization efforts across its business and IT operations.
Under the deal, FPT will participate in deploying and advising cloud services, application development, and modernization of systems. A key component of the cooperation is the provision of Microsoft 365 licenses to Chugoku and to the group’s Hiroshima-based subsidiary companies.
Chugoku’s 2025 annual report states that its system includes nearly 40 subsidiaries and associated companies. The long-term agreement is built on a collaboration platform among FPT, Chugoku, and ENCOM, Chugoku’s core IT company.
FPT said it will apply an “AI-First” approach to accelerate modernization of legacy systems, boost productivity, and create new growth opportunities. FPT representatives also highlighted the role of combining AI with cloud capabilities and modern application modernization to build a flexible digital business for the future.
Chugoku Electric Power stated that the partnership is intended to raise productivity and strengthen its operation platform based on AI and data. The company also described the project as a systematic way to deploy Microsoft 365, improve communication and collaboration, and expand the use of digital tools in daily operations.
Microsoft 365 is described as integrating communication tools such as Outlook and Teams. It also supports application development and process automation through robotic process automation (RPA), which Chugoku said will contribute to improved operations and help the group shift toward a more flexible operating model focused on digitization.
Chugoku further said the initiative will serve as a platform for both parties to continue deploying AI applications and automation in the future, citing its recognition of FPT’s technology capabilities within the Microsoft ecosystem, its understanding of the operating environment, and its ability to mobilize global resources.
Before the agreement, FPT provided multiple Microsoft-related services to Chugoku, including deploying new solutions, operating a helpdesk, and configuring and deploying systems. The long-term collaboration, according to the article, reaffirms FPT’s role as a comprehensive technology partner delivering end-to-end services within Microsoft’s ecosystem.
The article also cited Mordor Intelligence, which expects Japan’s digital transformation market to reach USD 236.48 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 24.93% for the 2025–2030 period.
