Money-flow movement for the week of 30 Mar – 3 Apr Banks and securities groups attracted funds over the week. Liquidity continued to move in a cautious manner. Nevertheless, in this context some stock groups drew attention from cash flows such as banks and securities. Conversely, funds flowed out of oil and gas, coal and plastics sectors. The week transitioning from March to April was relatively subdued. The VN-Index rose mildly 0.7% to 1,684 points, while the HNX-Index fell 1.46% to 248.68 points. On HOSE, average trading volume declined by more than 3% to about 871 million shares per session. On HNX, volume fell by more than 7% to 83 million shares per session. In contrast, trading value rose slightly on both exchanges. HOSE turnover rose 5% to 24.7 trillion dong, while HNX turnover edged up 0.7% to nearly 1.6 trillion dong. This implies that capital flows are moving more toward large-cap stocks, modestly improving liquidity. Overview of liquidity for the week 30/03 – 03/04 [images of liquidity charts] In terms of sectors, liquidity over the week tended to favor banking stocks. Banking stocks such as KLB, EIB, MSB, and LPB were among the leaders in HOSE liquidity gains, up 50% to 130% versus the previous week. KLB, in particular, saw liquidity surge by more than 130%, driving a 10% price gain. Additionally, the securities sector also attracted cash; stocks BSI, FTS, VFS, MBS, and BVS were among the top liquidity gainers of the week. By contrast, liquidity showed divergence in real estate and construction. Real estate stocks like DXS, TAL, VRE, VHM, VC3, NDN, IDC, AAV, NRC led in liquidity gains, while HAR, EVG, VRC, HDG, TIG, CEO, DTD, IDJ suffered cash outflows, suggesting hot money flowed into these sectors previously has cooled and reversed. In construction, liquidity showed mixed movement; HTN, VC2, MST, S99 drew attention, while DC4, HT1, TSA faced outflows. In oil and gas and coal, significant outflows were observed; PVP, VIP, PLX, PVB, PLC were among the losers in liquidity. It appears hot money into these sectors cooled in recent weeks and reversed. In addition, plastics also had notable declines in liquidity with HII, BMP, NTP, PCH among the losers.
