Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy Nguyễn Huy Tiến Re-elected

On April 7, 2026, the 16th National Assembly adopted a resolution to appoint Nguyen Huy Tien as Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy. With 474 out of 474 deputies present voting in favor, the National Assembly approved the resolution to appoint Nguyen Huy Tien, Prosecutor General for the 2021-2026 term, to continue in the 2026-2031 term. He holds a Doctor of Law; a Bachelor’s degree in Law; and an Associate degree in prosecution. Mr. Nguyen Huy Tien is a member of the 14th Party Central Committee; a deputy to the 16th National Assembly. Having remained devoted to the prosecution sector, Nguyen Huy Tien has served at various posts in the Supreme People’s Procuracy and local prosecution offices, including time at VKSND Hoành Bồ district (Quảng Ninh); VKSND Thái Bình town; and VKSND Thái Bình province. Since September 1995, Mr. Nguyen Huy Tien served as a Senior Prosecutor, Deputy Head of the VKSND tỉnh Thái Bình. In March 2001, he served as a Senior Prosecutor, at the Institute for Practicing the Right to Prosecution and for appellate trial in Hanoi (Appellate Institute 1), VKSND Tối cao. Over his subsequent career at the VKSND Tối cao, he held roles including: Senior Prosecutor, Appellate 1; Deputy Chief, then Chief of Appellate 1. In June 2012, he was assigned as the Prosecutor General of the VKSND tỉnh Quảng Bình. Three years later, he served as Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Procuracy’s high court in Hanoi, and later held the rank of Senior Prosecutor under the 2014 Law on Organization of the VKSND. From May 2017, he returned to the VKSND Tối cao, holding posts such as Director of the Vụ Thực hành quyền công tố và kiểm sát điều tra án tham nhũng (Vụ 5); Deputy Prosecutor General, then Deputy Prosecutor General (Permanent). At the end of August 2024, at the 8th Extraordinary Session of the 15th National Assembly, Mr. Nguyễn Huy Tiến was elected Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy for the 2021-2026 term, succeeding the previous incumbent Le Minh Trí who was elected Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court at that time. Gắn bó với ngành kiểm sát, ông Nguyễn Huy Tiến có thời gian công tác tại VKSND huyện Hoành Bồ (tỉnh Quảng Ninh); VKSND thị xã Thái Bình (tỉnh Thái Bình); VKSND tỉnh Thái Bình. Từ tháng 9-1995, ông Nguyễn Huy Tiến là Kiểm sát viên trung cấp, Phó Trưởng phòng VKSND tỉnh Thái Bình. Tháng 3-2001, ông là Kiểm sát viên trung cấp, Viện Thực hành quyền công tố và kiểm sát xét xử phúc thẩm tại Hà Nội (Viện Phúc thẩm 1), VKSND Tối cao. Quá trình công tác tại VKSND Tối cao sau đó, ông đảm đương các vị trí: Kiểm sát viên VKSND Tối cao, Viện Phúc thẩm 1; Phó Viện trưởng rồi Viện trưởng Viện Phúc thẩm 1. Tháng 6-2012, ông được điều động, bổ nhiệm làm Viện trưởng VKSND tỉnh Quảng Bình. Ba năm sau, ông Nguyễn Huy Tiến đảm nhiệm cương vị Viện trưởng VKSND cấp cao tại Hà Nội, chuyển xếp ngạch Kiểm sát viên cao cấp theo quy định của Luật Tổ chức VKSND năm 2014. Từ tháng 5-2017, ông Nguyễn Huy Tiến quay trở lại công tác tại VKSND Tối cao, lần lượt giữ các chức vụ: Vụ trưởng Vụ Thực hành quyền công tố và kiểm sát điều tra án tham nhũng (Vụ 5); Phó Viện trưởng, rồi Phó Viện trưởng Thường trực, Kiểm sát viên VKSND Tối cao. Cuối tháng 8-2024, tại Kỳ họp bất thường lần thứ 8, Quốc hội khóa XV bầu ông Nguyễn Huy Tiến bầu giữ chức Viện trưởng VKSND Tối cao nhiệm kỳ 2021-2026, thay người tiền nhiệm Lê Minh Trí được Quốc hội bầu giữ chức Chánh án TAND Tối cao khi đó.
