On the morning of April 23, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, a Politburo member, and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang chaired a meeting with relevant ministries and An Giang province to review the progress of projects serving the APEC 2027 Summit.
The meeting said that many large-scale projects in the Phu Quoc Special Administrative-Economic Zone—such as Phu Quoc International Airport and the APEC Conference Center—require substantial funding, personnel, and equipment. It also noted that, with continued government attention and active engagement from ministries, several difficulties in the investment and construction process have been addressed.
With limited time remaining, An Giang province asked government ministries to coordinate closely with the locality to promptly resolve new issues, ensuring all projects and works are completed on schedule.
Leaders from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and EVN reported on the status of tasks assigned by the Government and the Prime Minister. They also answered An Giang’s inquiries on specific projects and proposed key tasks for urgent implementation in the near term.
Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc said there is not much time left before the APEC 2027 Summit, and the requirement is to ensure projects are completed on time with quality to serve both the Summit and rehearsals. He emphasized that An Giang and the ministries must assign clear responsibilities, avoid delays, and not submit vague or generic proposals. He added that issues within the Government’s remit would be addressed promptly.
After the meeting, Pham Gia Tuc highlighted that Vietnam’s hosting of APEC 2027 is a significant international political event, decided by the Party Committee to be held in Phu Quoc and An Giang. He said it represents an opportunity for Vietnam’s development and for An Giang’s security and defense position, as well as its potential for economic growth, investment attraction, and tourism.
He noted that preparations for APEC 2027 are being advanced across many localities, including infrastructure, accommodation, and services to welcome delegations, with large-scale resort projects and high-standard conference centers cited as examples.
The Deputy Prime Minister praised the efforts of the ministries and An Giang, reiterating that there is little time left and all projects must be completed on schedule to support final rehearsals and checks, with no last-minute work. He urged ministries to immediately implement the agreed tasks, especially those providing support to An Giang and businesses, and to avoid delays. For matters requiring further coordination, he called for continued close collaboration to handle issues in a timely and effective manner.
For issues requiring reporting to the Politburo, the Ministry of Finance was requested to take the lead, working with the Ministry of Justice and other relevant ministries.
