On May 6, Nam Ma Commune Police Station in Lai Châu Province rescued three children from Điện Biên and Lai Châu who were traveling toward Hanoi after being lured by promises of a stable, high-paying job advertised on Facebook.
Around 8:00 p.m. on May 6, a police patrol spotted three children showing signs of anxiety while waiting for a ride in a deserted area with their personal belongings. Suspecting irregularities, officers brought the children to the station for verification.
The children were identified as T.T.N and L.H.B (both born in 2012 in Tuả Thàng commune, Điện Biên) and L.T.V (born in 2014 in Nam Cuổi commune, Lai Châu).
According to the investigation, the children believed recruitment advertisements that promised a stable, high-income job in Hanoi through social media. They left home and planned to meet in Nam Ma to catch a bus to work.
Nam Ma Police coordinated with police in Tuả Thàng and Nam Cuối to verify the children’s identities and contact their families. At the station, officers counseled the youths, explained tactics used by online scammers, and warned about the risks of human trafficking hidden behind the “easy work, high pay” pitch.
The youths were returned to their families in stable health and mental state.
The incident was cited as a warning about lax parental supervision and the growing risk of high-tech crime targeting students and children in remote areas. Lai Châu Police urged families to strengthen supervision of their children’s social media use and said the public should not trust recruitment offers from unknown online sources. If signs of seduction or coercion are detected, residents were advised to report immediately to the nearest police authority for assistance.
