During a state visit to China, General Secretary and President To Lam met Zhao Leji, a Standing Committee member of the CPC’s Politburo and the Chair of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee. At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the situation of each party, each country, and the work of their legislatures; they noted the positive progress in the bilateral relationship, as well as advances in exchanges and cooperation between Vietnam’s National Assembly and China’s National People’s Congress. To Lam affirmed that this visit to China continues the policy that Vietnam–China relations are a strategic priority and a top priority for the Party and the State; together with Chinese leaders they aim to set a new high level of strategic alignment. He congratulated China on its development achievements and praised the results of the XIV NPC and expressed confidence in China implementing the 15th Five-Year Plan for socio-economic development with a quality-focused orientation. Zhao Leji welcomed To Lam’s state visit to China, congratulated Vietnam on its XIV Party Congress and the first session of the XVI National Assembly; he reaffirmed China’s support for Vietnam in building socialism with Vietnamese characteristics. He stressed that the NPC is ready to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam’s National Assembly, share legislative and oversight experience, and promote policy connectivity and inter-parliamentary cooperation. The two sides agreed to promote the role of the legislative bodies in enhancing mutual understanding, managing disputes in accordance with international law, and contributing to a peaceful and stable environment for development. Zhao Leji affirmed the NPC’s willingness to expand cooperation with the Vietnamese Parliament and to share governance and oversight experiences, further linking development strategies between the two countries.
