On May 7, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Vietnam, in cooperation with the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi, held a memorial ceremony and an Immortal Regiment parade at Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.
The event marked multiple anniversaries: 51 years since the Liberation of the South and the reunification of Vietnam (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2026), 72 years since the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – May 7, 2026), and 81 years since the Victory Day of the Russian Federation (May 9, 1945 – May 9, 2026).
Hundreds of participants carried photographs of family members, veterans, and people who took part in the war to remember and pay tribute. The Immortal Regiment is described as a tradition to commemorate victims and participants of the Great Patriotic War and is organized in many countries.
In remarks at the event, Gennady Bezdetko, the Russian Ambassador to Vietnam, said that Russia always remembers the support and contributions of Vietnamese soldiers who fought to defend Moscow in 1941. He also expressed reverence for those who sacrificed in wars to defend Vietnam’s independence and sovereignty.
Sharing with VnEconomy, Tran Thuy Duong, Principal of Hanoi – Amsterdam High School, said the activity is organized annually by the Russian House and the Russian Embassy in Hanoi, and that this year it was held at the school for the first time.
Alongside the memorial parade, delegates planted memorial trees and took part in musical exchanges on the school campus.
