Senior wind-power industry leaders in China have urged restraint in aggressive price competition, warning that bidding below cost can damage corporate profits and also raise risks to product quality, safety, and the sector’s long-term development.
In a jointly authored article, experts and business leaders—including Tan Haiyan, Secretary-General of the China Wind Energy Association and Chairman of Goldwind Science and Technology—called on companies to stop wasteful internal competition and return the market quickly to a healthier competitive environment.
The article argues that the industry must align its understanding to ensure that efforts to enforce market discipline are not undermined by short-term interests. It also calls for a unified approach to protect the global leadership China has built in wind power, describing refusal to bid below cost as a “red line” that should not be crossed.
Experts said competition in the next phase should move toward technology innovation, higher quality, and improved service. The goal is to make real value creation the core driver of high-quality growth for the global green energy industry.
The call comes as China’s renewable energy sector records multiple milestones while facing increasing pressure.
The wind-power sector is described as transitioning from a policy-driven, supplementary role to a market-led main power, reinforcing China’s position in the global energy transition.
Tan Haiyan said a broad rebound in wind-turbine bid prices suggests the industry has begun to end price wars and that measures to curb wasteful competition are starting to take effect.
He added that, through policy and innovation, China’s newly installed wind capacity in 2025 more than doubled. With ongoing technological breakthroughs and wider applications, the sector is emerging as a new driver of high-quality socioeconomic development.
Experts said that as controls on price competition are further strengthened, price levels across the entire value chain are expected to gradually recover, laying the foundation for wind power to enter a new phase of high-quality development.
